Spyker C8 Aileron
Spyker Cars, a Dutch manufacturer of exclusive hand-built sports automobiles, has continued it’s development from the C8 and C8 Laviolette to produce one of the most desirable piece of art in the automotive world; the C8 Aileron.
In March 2009 at the Geneva car show, Spyker Cars N.V. introduced the production model of the C8 Aileron. At the same time, Spyker announced the development of a convertible; the Spyker C8 Aileron Spyder. The prototype was first presented at the 59th Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, and is scheduled to go into production in the first half of 2010.
The reborn company, lead by Victor Muller and Maarten de Bruijn, began operations in 2000 and was founded on the company's motto; "Nulla tenaci invia est via", which is Latin for "For the tenacious, no road is impassable". The Spyker models are hand-crafted to custom specifications in the same tradition as the earlier Spyker’s using five core brand values - heritage, design, craftsmanship, performance and exclusivity.
The C8 Aileron comes with an Audi 4.2 litre V8 engine delivering 400 horsepower, 354 lb-ft. of torque, and a top speed of approximately 300 km/h (187 mph). The C8 can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds. Available transmissions include a six-speed Getrag manual or an optional ZF automatic with paddle shifters. You may opt to include a Limited Edition Chronoswiss Spyker watch and Louis Vuitton luggage if you choose.
The modern, two-seat, mid-engine, rear wheel drive C8 models, the Laviolette (coupe) and the Spyder (convertible), have a striking avant-garde design that incorporates a mix of aeronautical heritage, high-quality engineering, and ornate detail, both inside and out. Turbine-themed air scoops were inspired by Spyker's aeronautical roots. Other noticeable features include a propeller motif, which is contained in the wired wheels and the company's logo. This boutique-built supercar incorporates scissors-style doors for function and ease of access. The Aileron is truly automotive jewelry.
Each C8 has a state-of-the-art aluminum space-frame chassis that is designed to be lightweight and rigid. It was redesigned to be able to achieve increased torsional rigidity and to incorporate the latest suspension system, which greatly improve performance and vehicle dynamics. The aerodynamic aluminum body panels are handmade and supplied by Coventry Prototype Panels in the U.K. and Karmann in Germany.
The Spyker C8 Aileron Spyder has a high-quality, semi-automatic canvas soft-top. The roof's operation is electric/hydraulic, secured by one central latch operated manually. Once folded, the soft-top is totally enclosed within the body of the car, allowing for an undisturbed profile. The roof retracts under an aluminium tonneau cover, with two buttresses upholstered in quilted Hulshof leather, matching the car's interior. The soft top has a glass rear window and is available in eight colours.
"The Aileron Spyder will offer open-top motoring along with all the usual Spyker characteristics, striking aviation-inspired styling and hand-crafted quality, based on the exclusive use of noble materials," said Muller.
On July 14, 2005 it was announced that the C8 was approved for sale in the United States and in March 5, 2009 it was announced that Alberta's Dilawri Group of Companies will be its first exclusive factory authorized Spyker dealer in Canada under the name; Spyker of Calgary. The dealer plans to opens its doors this spring. Pricing for the made-to-order C8 supercars will start at approximately $275,000 Canadian.
